“[The students and faculty] form a vibrant community where ideas are continuously exchanged, explored, and challenged.”

Hometown: Montclair, New Jersey

Major: Human Ecology

Eco League School I Attend: College of the Atlantic

Most Dramatic Difference Between the Two Environments: The scenery. The two school environments are actually quite similar, which is probably why I enjoyed my time at Prescott so much. The student experiences were characterized by small classes providing personalized attention, a strong sense of community, and self-directed learning.

Courses I Took: Alchemy of Awareness, Spanish, and Foundations of Visual Art

Fun Things to Do in the Area: Go outside! There is amazing hiking and climbing nearby. And definitely plan to visit the Grand Canyon. It only takes about 2 hours to drive there from Prescott.

My Best Excursion/Adventure There: Some of my best excursions were not strictly academic. My most memorable experiences were going dumpster diving and making meals for Food Not Bombs. The annual drag show put on by the College is also a highlight.

Best Time to Go: The spring. The weather is great, and you can watch everything start to turn green again.

Library at Prescott CollegeWhat to Read Up on Before You Go: Explore the Prescott College website. There are many exciting programs in which to get involved, even as a visiting student. Submit an article to the Raven Review, lend a hand at Wolfberry Farm, or teach English to the migrant community through the Atzlan Center. And remember to familiarize yourself with the geography and climate of the region so you can pack appropriately and get excited about the abundant recreational opportunities.

What is Unique About the People There: The students and faculty are enthusiastic people committed to experiential learning and to making positive changes in both physical and social environments. They form a vibrant community where ideas are continuously exchanged, explored, and challenged.

Faculty Member I Most Enjoyed Working With: Julie Comnick. Julie is fun and accessible, just like her classes. For students with no art background, taking studio art can be intimidating, but Julie created a supportive environment. She consistently provided encouragement and constructive analysis of my work without hampering my creativity.

Reasons to Participate in an Eco League Experience: College is the time to learn all that you can and to discover what you’re passionate about. Eco League offers you the chance to visit another school where you will be exposed to new ideas and experiences that may become your next passion. In the process, you can also make great friends, as I did.
